About “Kid Mail”
If your PTA’s
newsletter is produced or distributed utilizing school funds (printed on district copier,
mailed with school’s newsletter, sent home with students etc), all information it
contains must comply with state law forbidding public facilities from
being used to support or oppose candidates or ballot propositions. It must be “Kid Mail Safe”. The WSPTA Legislation web page has updated Guidelines
for Using “Kid Mail” .
Detailed
information on PDC regulations is available by following the Links below but
basically a PTA Legislation newsletter article should only provide information
and not advocate a position. Non-compliance
could result in the school’s administrator, not PTA, being fined by the Public Disclosure Commission.
If a PTA
Legislation article is a regular feature in your PTA’s newsletter, then the
information is less‑suspect than if it only appears prior to an election
or during the legislative session.
